Anointed for a Purpose Sermon

Sermon notes on 1 Samuel 9:15 & 10:1

1 Samuel 9:15-10:1, 10:5-9

Main Point- God anointed Saul to be king for His purpose, His glory and He became changed and equipped.  God has also anointed us, His beloved for His purpose, His glory, and in Him we have been changed and equipped.

What do you think of when you hear the word anointed?

Anointing Oil

For the purpose of this sermon, we will define Anointed as:

to be chosen and made holy for God’s purposes and glory.

Jesus is the anointed one and all anointing is for God’s glory and His purposes and in His power.  The anointing is the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

As we look at Saul’s anointing and the believer’s anointing, understand that it is all about God and not about us!

Saul’s anointing, Jesus’s anointing, and our anointing

I want to use the text as a rubric to compare and explain God’s annointing.

Our anointing

Are we anointed?

1 John 2:26-27, yes!

    1. Pre-destined
    1. It is for God +
    1. It was for a purpose
    1. It isn’t earned or reserved for the powerful
    1. It was prepared for us
      1. Ephesians 2:10 for we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them
    2. It was done in private, but made public later
    1. It turned him into another man and changed his heart

God has anointed you for His purpose and His glory.  Lets take that seriously.  Lets walk in the confidence that whom God has anointed, He has equipped.

For the unbeliever, you can be anointed by God, but first you must surrender your life to Him, turn away and renounce your sins, and believe on Jesus.

Lets pray
