Flawed faith, Flawless God

mpt-Our God is faithful and can do the impossible, even when our faith isn’t perfect

Flawed faith, flawless God

Hebrews 11:11 By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.

12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.

God’s faithful when our faith is compromised

Genesis 15:1-6

  • Around 75
  • Still waiting for that heir
  • Believed God

Genesis 16:1-4a

  • 10 years later
  • Hagar time
  • Ishmael conceived

Genesis 16:16-17:1-8, 17:15-19

  • Abraham 99, Ishmael 13
  • Promise reiterated, Isaac promised

Genesis 18:9-15

  • Promise reiterated to Sarah
  • Is anything too hard for the Lord?

Genesis 21:1-7

  • At 100, promise delivered, Isaac born
  • The Lord did it

  • Time
    • Our power
    • Laughter
    • Despite all of that, by faith Sarah herself received the power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised
    • God didn’t throw out her faith even though it wasn’t perfect
      • Cloud of witnesses had faith, not perfect
    • Even when your faith is rocky, believe God
    • Even when you fall in your faith, get back up
    • Our God is merciful even in our weaknesses
      • Hebrews 4:15-16 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
    • In our faith, God will be more faithful than our faith, because He is the God of all mercy
      • Not a ‘gotcha god’ but a loving Father
      • If so, Sarah and Abraham wouldn’t have received the promise
    • When you are believing God, by faith trusting the promises of His word, keep holding on, when your hands slip, get back on
      • Monkey bars

  • Our God is able to do the impossible

Hebrews 11:11 By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.

12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.

Genesis 18:14 Is anything too hard for the Lord?

  • God did something that was triply impossible:
    • Bible says Sarah was not menstruating any more (no more eggs)
    • Abraham was good as dead (dried up)
    • She was already barren
    • It shouldn’t have been in the cards, but there was a promise
  • By faith Sarah herself received power
    • By what she believed, she received power
  • By faith, we too received power
  • Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth
  • What is this power? its God’s power that is in you as surely as the Holy Spirit is in you
  • I want to take a moment to brag about our God who can do anything and I want to remind us that He is still as powerful as when He gave Sarah the power to conceive, and thirdly that He works through us His children so lets bring Him glory by faith!
  • Job 42:2 “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
  • Jeremiah 32:27 “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me?
  • Luke 1:37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”
  • John 11:40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
  • Our God gave strength to Sarah to conceive at 90
  • Our God used Moses to split the sea and walk across the sea bed
  • Our God gave Sampson the power to kill a lion and topple a building
  • Our God gave David an anointing to kill hundreds
  • Our God gave the three Hebrew young men the power to walk into the fire and not get burned
  • All of these things God by faith gave His people His power to do things for His glory
  • Our God hasn’t changed, the challenge is to pray BIG prayers, that God by faith will use you to display His glory!
  • Pray and believe for His power against cancer, covid, dead men to life (salvation), wherever you find a hopeless situation, insert God into the equation because our God is still able to the impossible

Our God is faithful

Hebrews 11:11 By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.

  • Since
      • Over and over we see that our faith is about Him whom promises
      • Our God is faithful
  • Deuteronomy 7:9 9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,
      • Hebrews 10:23  23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
  • Psalms 36:5 5Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens,
  • your faithfulness to the clouds.
  • What are you going through?  What do you need to believe God for?  What do you need to do by faith?  What do you need from your God? *pause*
      • Find a promise to hold onto from God’s word
      • He is faithful to His promises
  • Hebrews 6:13-20
