Jesus the Lord of Glory

Description of Jesus in Revelation

Sermons on Revelation

Isaiah 9:6-7

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom,

to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.

The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

  • Sets the stage for Christmas and His names and God will do it

Jesus The Lord of Glory

James 2, 1 Corinthians 2 call Jesus the Lord of Glory

    • Define glory-God’s infinite, intrinsic worth, weight of His glory, brightness of His glory
  • Where’d He get this glory?
  • Same glory- Hebrews 1:1-3 1Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high
  • John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
  • Psalm 24:7-10-describes the glory of the Father of which Jesus shares
  • Today we will see Jesus in a different light, one full of this might and glory!

  • Why is this sermon important?
    • Theological- know who our God is as the all powerful Lord of Glory
    • Evangelistically-know how powerful and full of glory and splendor our God is and be attracted whether saved or not
    • Practically-know what He is doing for you, always, not just a period, but a , not only did but does
    • Awesomeness- Be in awe of our God one as a pebble is in awe of a mountain or the final drop of water in a bottle of water is in awe of the oceans, but yet that ocean came for the drop of water and  that mountain came for the pebble

Revelation 1:9-18

The Glory of Jesus

6 Observations of this picture of the Lord of glory

    1. Everything about Jesus in this vision is full of power and glory
      1. Walk through it
      2. This should build our confidence in who our God is
        1. He’s not a political movement
        2. He’s not just a good moral teacher
        3. He’s not just some religious figurehead like Muhamed, Budha, Kristna, or the Pope
        4. He’s not just a great man to be remembered that is now dead
        5. He’s not a weak God or a soft looking dude we see pictures of
        6. But our God is the Lord of glory!
      3. This also should help us to get know other sides of Jesus, just like each one of has layers to who we are, Jesus is no different, He’s the suffering servant , yes He’s the lamb slayed before the foundation of th world, but He is also the lion of Judah, the only one worthy to break the scrolls!!!
    2. Jesus tells us not to fear
      1. Why?  Because Jesus in all of His glory is for us
        1. He goes on to give him the gospel
        2. This is a common reaction of seeing Jesus for the true Lord of glory He is
          1. Jesus walking on water they cried out in fear and Jesus tells them do not be afraid
          2. When Jesus is transfigured before Peter James and John, they fall down trembling and in fear and Jesus tells them fear not
      2. When we see the Lord of Glory in the text, in our life, it is not for us to be afraid, but for us to worship and be in awe of Him!
      3. His enemies should  fear, but you His child He died and rose for you!
  • Matthew 25:31-46
      1. Let us remember that our Lord is not only Lamb, but Lion this will help us to worship Jesus in the fullness of who He is
    1. Jesus is the first and the last
      1. Jesus is eternal
  • John 1:1-5
        1. Alpha & omega
          1. A-z
        2. Nothing surprises Him, nothing catches Him off guard
        3. This should bring you comfort
          1. Example of kids wanting to know where we are going? The parents know.  With Jesus, we are like the kids, we are anxious, we don’t understand, we are trying to figure it out, but Jesus knows!
          2. Take comfort in that!!!
        4. If Jesus is our alpha omega a to z, is He our a-z in our life, or is He just a few letters? Give Jesus your whole alphabet, love the lord with your whole….
    1. Jesus is living
      1. He in all His glory is living and active
      2. Pray to Him, worship Him, He is listening, He is watching, He is interested!!!
    2. Jesus died and rose
  • Revelation 1:5
      1. gospel
    1. Jesus has the keys to death and hell
      1. Keys means we were locked
        1. Locked and bound by death from sin and hell as a consequence
        2. But Jesus died as a lamb slain for our sins, went into Hell as the lion and Lord of glory that He is and punched satan, sin, and death in the face and snatched the keys
  • Colossians 2:13-15
  • 1 Corinthians 15:54b-58
          1. Use 58 to make application
christ lord of glory like the sun in full strength
