Mark 8
31And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.

32And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

33But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

“Set your heart and mind”

**Main thrust this week is on the idea of setting our minds on Christ and pleasing Him, and not setting our mind on worldly, temporary, man centered things.**

  1. He gave us our minds, he gave us will and volition and the ability to set our minds, therefore He wants us to utilize this the way He want us to utilize everything…for His glory
    1. Psalm 86:12 I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.
  2. The way we set our minds affects our life
    1. John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
  3. The way we set our minds dictates the way we react to circumstances
    1. 1 thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
      1. We have to set our minds to give thanks and glory to god for the good things
      2. We have to set our minds to give thanks and glory to god in the hard times
  4. The way we set our minds affects our eternal destination
    1. Romans 8:6a for to set the mind on the flesh is death

33But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

**Jesus too had to set His mind on the things of His Father instead of earthly things**
