Worthy is the lamb Sermon
Why a lamb? Lamb as worship-Jesus’ worship to the father by presenting himself as lamb- John 1:29
- 1 Peter 1:17-19 And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.
- 1 Corinthians 5:7b Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
- It is important for us to see Him this way because it puts sin in context
-
- This, the most defining description of Jesus, would not exist without sin
- Define sin & talk consequence
- Ie, to pull a trigger is one thing, but the consequences are another
- One levee breaking in new orleans is one thing but the consequences are another
- To burn a newspaper is one thing, but the consequences are another
- To break God’s law and sin is one thing, but the consequences are another
- Sin changed the entire trajectory of mankind
- The consequences of sin are manifold: death, war, rape, murder, prostitution, infedelity, disease, hunger, covid 19, cancer, aids, disability, divorce, orphans, racism, hate
- Romans 8:18-23-consequence of sin
- My sin, your sin, our Sin was so devastating that it necessitated God the son becoming man to appease the Father
- 1 Peter 2:22-25-our sins, you have been healed
-
-
-
- We should Hate sin for what it did to our savior
- Just like we hate what alcohol has done to our loved ones
- Or cancer has done to the body
- We should Hate sin for what it did to our savior
-
-
- It is important for us to see Jesus as the lamb slain because it should make us want to model His sacrifice
- We don’t have to die for the sins of others, but we certainly need to make the sacrifice of dying to our own sin
- Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship
- Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable
- Present your tongue as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable
- Present your intimate parts as a living sacrifice hoy and acceptable
- Mind
- Wallet or pocket book
- Entertainment
- Present your emotions and attitude
- Present your fellowship with the family of God
- Present your care for others…
- It is important for us to see Jesus as the lamb slain so that we remember our righteousness and salvation is nill
- 1 John 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
- Romans 3:10 None is righteous, no, not one
- 2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
- Philippians 3:9 … not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—
- Now what-be humble
- It is important for us to see Jesus as the lamb slain so that we remember our salvation isn’t a light frivolous preoccupation but gravely serious
-
- It cost Jesus His life and He did it joyfully!
- Hebrews 12:1-4
- Now what- take your faith and salvation and walk with God seriously, aint no nominal christians
