1 Corinthians 1:10 I appeal to you, brothers,1 by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.
main point of sermon -In God’s church we are to strive for unity and eschew division

God Himself shows us what it means to agree and be united

No divisions?

1 Corinthians 11:18 divisions reveal the wheat and tare, the righteous and unrighteous
Proverbs 6:16-19 division makers are an abomination to God
This is why I don’t believe denominations to be biblical
Be united in same mind, Be united in same judgement (part of agree)
Agree about what? Same mind and judgment about what?

What is it ok for us to disagree about?
Non-primary doctrines-Titus 3:4-11
triage-Al Mohler
1st order-”denial of these doctrines represents nothing less than an eventual denial of Christianity itself”
2nd order- believing christians, but disagree and often cause separation/denominational between churches”
3rd order-disagree even within local congregations
Romans 14 (eating meat vs vegetables, calendar celebrations vs not, drinking alcohol vs not)
Non-doctrine & secular things
Politics
What are some potential divisions amongst the body?
Preferences: worship style:music, expression, translation
Race
Leadership preference
Fleshly things like: who we like or don’t like
How the church budget is spent
Lack of submission to elders and to each other
Why is it important for us to agree?
Matthew 12:25-house divided
Unity promotes an atmosphere of peace
Psalms 133:1 pleasant
Our unity is essential for our Christian witness
