The Violent Take it by Force Sermon

Sermon on the Kingdom of God

Luke 16:16 The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it.

“Violently Take Hold of the King”

Good news of kingdom

Response

  • Jesus is the King in Kingdom (1st half of verse)

The good news of the kingdom of God is preached

    • Luke 4:16-21
      • What is the good news of the kingdom of God, that God has sent a savior for those with a desperate need
      • Jesus made it plain by using obvious examples of people in physical need:
        • Poor, captive, blind, oppressed
        • But the Gospel of the kingdom is for all, we all have a desperate spiritual need of a savior
          • John 8:12 Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
        • Without God we are all in darkness, there is no comfort in darkness
          • To be in darkness is to be lost in this world
          • To be in darkness is to know that there should be a light
          • To be in darkness is to know that everything I am looking at has the potential to be so much greater in the light
            • You can’t see the vividness of a tree in the dark
            • You can’t make out the fullness of a smile in the dark
          • The darkness has a certain haunting suspicion of what is unseen
          • Only those with a light have comfort and that light is Jesus, He is the king in kingdom
  • John 1:1-5 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
  • This is the good news of the kingdom that we have a king named jesus who brings light into the darkness of the our spirit and soul.
    • This kingdom where Jesus is ruling and reigning has begun in His people and one day the kingdom will fully come
    • Until then we proclaim and live in the kingdom unto our king wherever we are
    • Colossians 1:12-14 12 giving thanks[d] to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
      • Again, Jesus is the king in kingdom and He is the good news to our desperate souls!
      • What is our response to that

Luke 16:16 The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it.

2) Force your way into the kingdom (2nd half of verse)

Luke 16:16 forces his way into it

  • Everyone
    • Luke 15:1-2 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. 2 And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”
      • Name your sinner
    • Not just jews, romans 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
  • Forces his way into it
    • Piazo-forcibly, violently or aggressively lay hold to something
      • Everyone forces there way into it
        • Prairie rain story
        • Best buy tvs back in the day
        • Walmart black friday
  • What are we piazoing?  We are piazoing the king and His kingdom!
  • When we heard the gospel of the kingdom, we don’t relax and wait in line, but we run to Jesus
  • We violently say nothing is more important in my life than you, you are who and what I want, I am desperately in need of you Lord!
  • I piazo you!
  • Philippians 3:7-14 I piazo you!
  • Psalm 86:10-13 I piazo you!

3 What does violently forcing our way to Jesus look like practically?

    • We are not spiritual superheroes, but we keep our faith and trust in God
  • Hebrews 11:4-
      • By faith
    • We stay spiritually minded
  • Romans 8:5-8 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
  • Colossians 3:16 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
    • Piazo the Lord moment by moment
      • How to eat a whale or elephant, bite by bite
  • Colossians 3:17 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

  • Remember, Romans 5:8 While we were yet sinners, Christ piazo’d us, by dying for us
